Default Shoei helmet with Pin Lock insert

I have a Shoei helmet with the pin lock insert. The narrow silicone sill around the insert acts like a magnifying glass when the sun hits it just right. Even through the sun visor it will hurt your eye. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what did you do to fix it? Is there any kind of dye that you could put on silicone that wouldn't ruin it? It works to good on fog to give up on.

Just tilt your head a bit. Too small an issue to try ruining the silicon to fix it.

I had a setting/rising sun issue that blinded me. Added some strips to black electrical tape. Simple fix for that issue.

Which Shoei helmet? does it have the internal drop down sun visor? Just wondering it it makes a difference or not in the glare.

I have the Shoei Air Gt, with the pinlock insert and internal visor. There is no way to solve it other than get used to it. The Pinlock insert actually is not approved for low light riding conditions which is when it really bothered me the most at first. Subsequently, its too much of a pain in the *** to constantly remove and re-install the pinlock. I deal with the glare which is manageable at night, most of the time at night I ride with the visor up and use clear safety glasses as the internal visor is too dark for me at night. The pinlock installed however is incredible, almost magical against fog.

When the pinlock is new, as you know its flat. Once installed it retains the bent shape and is really tough to store away without scratching.

I have the shoei Neo Tec modular [ flip up ] with the drop down visor. Bothers me even through the sun visor. It's a very bright concentrated glare like a magnifying glass. I did try to ignore the glare and tip my head and all that, but ended up having to pull in to a rest area and pull the pin lock out. Had one really red eye. Think I'll look in to that window tint.

When I switched my qwest to the pin lock I was super happy about no fog but it was so loud compared to the old non pin lock shield. Not sure why. Not getting the sun problem but I only had it installed briefly.

I have a Shoei pinlock shield on my Neotec and I've had zero issues with what you're describing. I ride in all conditions and at night and I've been nothing but highly impressed with the entire helmet.

Good to hear your having no trouble with yours. Maybe just an flaw in my shield and when I replace it the problem will go away.

Hmmm, will be following this thread. Getting ready to pounce on a new Neo Tech. At that price, I certainly don't want gremlins!
