Default Dunlop failure

12,000 miles, I took mine off at 9,500 and was more than satisfied with that. When mine start to cup I throw them out and buy new. I look at it like this, Is four or five hundred bucks worth running the risk of loosing my life or both our lives just to push out the max mileage out of a set of tires ? I rather ride on a new set and not worry about are they safe or not. You did more than well at that mileage.

Amen.

I go through $1,200 in tires every 3,000 miles on the street, and $600 a day on track.

The way I look at it is, that the most expensive motorcycle tires on the market, are still cheaper than a crash caused by shagged tires.

I replaced a Dunlop AE Thursday with 24K on it. The previous AE tire had 18K on it.

Like I said, they're made out of granite or something. It's unnatural for tires to last that long.

$1200 in tires every 3k miles on the street is ridiculous and hard to believe. Ever check the air pressure in your tires and is this on a motorcycle?

A sharp edge on a pot hole at speed would cause the death spiral on that tire. On average you should get 20 grand out of your tires. Always a good idea to eyeball em once in a while, and when they start getting some slippage out of a turn is a good sign for change.

Surely it all depends on the bike, the rider, the heat/cold, air pressure, potholes and pavement surfaces, age of tires, and the type of riding you do. On a Heritage I expect 12-15,000 miles on a rear tire, my old Fat Boy S got 5000.

Wow if that tire is still within the date code then it probably had a latent defect off the line. I run Dunlops on all my bikes and the OL's too. She just had to change at 14K miles. Probably a few more miles left on them but it was close enough couple with the fact that she wanted to get rid of the white walls. I've got 15K on one bike right now with some wear left.
