Italy here I come
Next summer one of my daughters' is getting married in Tuscany (destination wedding). I'm going there for 2 weeks and the first week me and a friend are renting Harleys from Florence HD for a week. We're going to head to Pompeii first and after that we have no idea but definitely want to avoid Rome and other big cities on the bikes.
If any of you have ridden in Italy I'd love some tips. I don't think we'll have time to get as far north as the Alps since we are heading south first. My friend is renting a SG so he'll have GPS, the Heritage I'm getting won't. I've been to Italy many times but never on a bike. I can't wait it's going to be great when we figure out where to go exactly (or not and just point and ride). The plan is to stay in cheap 'pensiones' (bed and breakfasts).

It may be good to look up some motorcycle tour companies in Italy. Sometimes, you can find out their general routes on their website. These tours focus on scenic winding rides so you can use that as a guide and plan your own trip. Next time we head back to Italy I want to do the Ducati Dream Tour if I can get it in.

Good luck, you're going to have a blast. I love Italy.

I worked for an Oil Company in Milan for about 10 yrs. We had another office in Rome. I had to go to HQ about once a yr for some goofy meeting. It would be a great place to ride in out in the country. I could see the Alps from Milan. Had planned on taking the high speed train to Switzerland but never did. I'm retired now so no more Italy for me.
If you go into the bigger cities, watch out for the pick pockets.
Enjoy the ride, I am envious, Sam
