Spokes are pretty to look at but the consequences that go with having them is a PITA. Go solid wheel.

Since I started waxing them (liquid spay wax) it has gotten easier though.
Of course, if you live next to the ocean or ride on roads covered with salt all bets are off. But then, you’d have the same problem with all the rest of the chrome and plated hardware, wouldn’t you?

Personally I’d never live near the ocean. An ocean just means 180 degrees of poor riding in the direction of the ocean.

was just about to say the very same thing. everyone of my bikes except for the streetglide have had spokes and I've never had a single issue. and in case your wondering, I've ridden all over the country on spokes, hit pot holes, etc. I let the dealer service the spokes when the bike is in for scheduled maintenance or before I head out on a long trip. spokes are no biggie in my opinion.

I have had spoke issues with two different bikes, a 70 something Kawasaki KZ400 and a 2000 HD Wide Glide. I lost spokes on the rear wheel of both bikes After the third time to get the rear wheel tightened and trued I said to hell with spokes, and now mag wheels will be my preference, till I die.

Cast wheels on my HD, my other two bike have tubes in the tires. Like a previous poster said, easier to repair a flat on the tubeless tire.

my first bike had spokes. i thought they looked great. until after about 6 months. the hd spokes were zinc plated so they got kinda ugly. took a lot of work to keep them looking halfway decent. then after getting 2 flat tires within 6 months, i decided i was through. have had tubeless tires ever since. funny thing too. haven't had a flat since.....

Had SS spokes on 2 of my bikes. While they seem impervious to ocean salt and recover very well when polished up.
Problem with SS is that it has a tendency to fracture or shear at a much lower threshold than carbon steel spokes.
I still have a few spokes that have failed for your entertainment. Here's a pic...

Everyone has their own opinion.
My bike came from the factory with chrome mags. I couldn't get rid of them fast enough for a proper set of chrome laced profile spoke wheels. But that's just me. Lots of forum members think I am nuts!!!
But I wouldn't **** on a set of mags if they were on fire!
You got to do what you think is best for your bike. I did and laced profile spoke wheels was it. Do what you feel.

Have an awesome set of 80 spoke wheels in the garage attic I dumped because I wasn't going to clean those SOB's again, mags are just less headache all round far as wheels go.

Love my spoked wheels. I’ve ran them on every Harley I’ve owned. Takes more effort to clean but worth it to me. And I run them tubeless as wel with no issues.

To each their own, that’s why there are so many choices.
