My inner cam bearings went through my engine at 31k - wasted it. A friend doesn't push as hard as I do got 46k
and inner cam bearings trashed his too. Fwiw.

I run the Zipper dual pistons, looked at them at 50k and looked brand new.

Was this with the newer hydraulic tensioners HD has used since '07?? I thought that problem was fixed with any bike newer than an '06.

Bearings are a whole different issue. Tentioners have nothing to do with Cam Bearings failing.

Upgrade the bearings to Torrington... If you’re taking out the OEM garbage why would you put the same garbage back in?

You should also seriously consider some drop in cams while it’s apart. Just look at the reviews throughout the forums on Andrews 48H, those cams will wake up your stock 96 and put a smile on your face. You owe it to your motor to let it breathe!

Check Out Fuel Moto for Cam kits they come with the Torrington Bearings and new lifters as well. Do some homework and I’m sure you’ll find similar advice 100x over.

I changed out the original shoes on my 07, they were a bit worn, but now that the chain has been polished the new ones should last a long time

From the OP. Yes i was not very clear. So far the only OEM parts i am looking at are the shoes. I am upgrading the inner cam bearings as i ordered them and the tool from MBS manufacturing look to be the same as Heartland tools. Cams i am going to hold off on as i have only had this bike for 3 years and i said i would as a project keep it as stock as i can and see what happens. So for i have done wheel bearings and brake rotors as 2 out of 3 warped. I probably dont ride this bike hard enough to know if it has been woken up. I have a couple of other bikes i run a little harder.

Thanks for replying.
