why is it worth repeating? maybe no one posted it before because it is clearly covered in your owner's manual?

Never heard of a "dump" idea...there are "dumb" ones, but never heard anything IRT what I take in the AM after two cups-o-joe.

Agree w/the hot vs. cold oil checks tho, but I read my owner's manual cover-to-cover.

I started to but I got scared, I didn't know bikes were so dangerous. I had to stop reading it after the first few pages.

that's where the owner's manual comes into play, again. some years were checked standing upright, while others were checked on the jiffy stand. you need to know which one is which.
