Thread Sealant
 

Does anyone use a liquid thread sealant on their drain plugs? If so, is it easy to remove the plug when your next fluid change? Thinking about trying that versus thread tape.

You really should not need it. The rubber O-ring should be all you need. I don't even use a new O-ring every time. I have many fluid changes with no leaks.

Thread sealant will do you no good on that style of plug. Threads do not seal, o-ring does, unlike NPT style connection. I know it’s probably not what you wanted to hear,but stick to o-rings.

As said above, o-rings only. No thread sealant,. No thread tape. Clean threads only.

I use it on the threads of the primary drain plug on my 1993 Fatboy. No o-ring on that plug. The oil drain plug is just that, a plug that gets inserted into a hose than secured with a hose clamp.

Just follow the manual. 5 speed primaries without oring get sealant.

I do you use anti seize even when not called for, on a few things.

I use Loctite 565 on all my plugs, whether they have an o-ring or not. It is cheap insurance against leaks, seepage, or worse-- a failed o-ring.

If you are unfamiliar with Loctite 565, the military uses it for their critical plumbing components. This stuff is amazing and can handle some serious stuff, like 10,000 PSI of pressure.

This is a bad advice that someone will follow.
Do not use sealant on connections not made for it, you are only introducing a point of failure.
