Alternator cover leak
 

Hi everyone. Recently i changed a metal gasket from an alternator cover on my V Rod VRSCA 2002, and now it has a small permanent oil leak at the bottom bolt number 11 location.

Any suggestion please? Any idea how to fix this?

First make sure it isn't coming from the stator plug wire...that's a known issue.
Next make sure the mating surfaces are clean and flat...no nicks or debris.
Use a thin coat of Permatex (gasket sealer) on all surfaces.
Last, make sure you tighten all cover screws gradually and evenly...don't tighten each one all the way before moving to the next one.
Check for the proper torque requirement, and don't exceed it on any particular one.

If it still leaks after that, you may have a warped cover and will need a new one.

Tighten the screws gradually in a kind of star pattern, for a better chance of sealing it evenly.

So, you're the one that bought the V-rod. +1 with ensure the surfaces are clean ,clean, clean. Use some oil resistant RTV to fill in any gaps on the engine case and tighten the fasteners in a star pattern gradually till tight then use the minimum torque specs for final tightening.

+1 on redoing it. Maybe there was debris on the surface, maybe the gasket material has a deformity or lack of material in the area.
