Default 1 gallon water jug/cooler strapped to sissy bar?

We have a long trip coming up, I was thinking of putting a 1 gallon water jug on my passenger seat and strapping it to the sissy bar for when we have short stops I could get a quick drink of water. Has anyone ever done this?

BTW I am aware how ridiculous that sounds!

Get an insulated cooler, a gallon jug will get mighty warm.

Drain about 1/3 of the jug and tilt it about 30 degrees off vertical and freeze it with the cap loose, It's important to keep the cap on so it doesn't deform and not seal when tightened. Take it out of the freezer and top it off with water you drained before you leave and you'll have cold water for the better part of the day. Put it in a soft insulated cooler bag and it will last longer. I did it going to Sturgis one year while crossing the prairie when it was around 100. I stopped about every 20 miles for a drink when it was really hot and it worked well for me.

Sorry, my feeble mind pictured a milk jug.

We we use the double insulated Camel Back Eddy bottles and they will keep ice all day.

Have a great ride.

Only do this if you have an old cheap one. These new ones, even the cheap walmart version are to well insulated. I may put a few ice cubes in mine if really hot out, otherwise to cold to drink. I forgot my coffee cup so used my ozark drinking cup. Would not cool down even with lid off. I had to add ice.

I have had ice stay in a glass for a month in my fridge, without a lid.

Why does the idea of water sound odd to you?

I strap my lunch pail on, I suppose that bothers some yuppies.

Milk jugs are PIA to rinse out, but the gallon size water bottles are good. For reusing ice mountain makes a thick one. Some of them just have a press on cap, rather than scew which is not good for this.
