Default Trade-in value - Unfreakinbelievable

Well I found myself curious about the Road Glide all of a sudden. So I did a little research on cycle trader and the HD site's used bike link and found a few that interested me. So I figure I would call just to see what I could do. Well both dealers are asking around $16k + for the 06 Road Glides. But they are only offering $13k at most for my Street Glide. They only pay wholesale price. But they also won't move on the price of the RG's. Now before anyone chimes in with the "they don't hold their value like they used to" bit I am well aware of that. But I didn't think I would lose $6k to depretiation in just a little over a year. I figured with the fact that they probably paid wholesale value on the bikes they have that they would come down a little on the price. No such luck.

They sure have a racket going. Pay wholesale and mark up $4-$5k and not budge to make a deal. Guess there is always someone willing to take a loss or pay what they are asking. Besides they gotta pay for those big, fancy dealerships somehow.

I guess if I want to persue this any further I will just look into selling it myself.

They're in business to make money. Fair pricing is irrelevant. If you want fair, don't go to the dealer.

You are only talking three large. If you want it, do it. Their RGs apparently did not appreciate quite as much as your SG.

If I decide to sell my Heritage I wouldn't take it to a dealer for trade, I might let them consign it but even that is an 8% ding of the top end. I guess it would come down to how much I really wanted a new bike.

If you want it and can afford it, buy it and roll the throttle and never look back.

Not in my mind. Already lost the $6k to depretiation. Add in another $3k out of pocket and I am down $9k. Don't want it that bad.

I've been looking at the Road Glides too. I don't know why - until recently I though them the absolute ugliest thing on the road.

I still owe entirely too much on my used bike though to go trading for a road glide.. hehe Win some lose some.

I am kind of suprised with your deal though. You know they'd just bump your bike up to 17.5-18k and resale it. They could afford a little more flexability.

Thank you. That is exactly what I am saying. I know they are in business to make money. I am well aware of that. But budge a little.
