Harley Davidson Pan America -final form

Rumor is that it will be priced to compete with the competitors premium models. Hopefully that means starting at low to mid 20's. If you build up a BMW, Honda, or KTM 1200+ you are stretching to that high 20 price tag. Triumph and Yamaha seem to stay in the high teens to low 20s. Just like the Livewire, they are starting with their best model that they can produce right now to get into the market. Once the reputation is built up in that market I believe we will see lower priced, smaller displacement models in that adventure category.

The wheels appear to be tubeless which will be a blessing; I make this assumption on that the spokes are on the outside of the rim.
I was really hoping for the Bronx as I wanted to see more models with this new engine.
So, could this engine be dressed up to pass in the Sportster line? I am sure enough variations of tank, fenders, and such, could be done up.
As for pricing, BMW 1250GS start under 18k and KTM starts under 16k with their 1290 Super Adventure line. Average prices out the door is low 20s for the BMW without bags.
Now of course I would love this motor in a competitor to the BMW R1250RT that I own

I had my name on the first one that my local dealer was getting… And October 31 he is finished… So I will be not getting one there… I like the bike, and I liked that it was from Harley Davidson, because of the dealership network… but that disappeared in the hinter-land, just like my desire to buy one... and I don’t believe for a moment that the independents will embrace HARLEY‘s new-think... I asked the local dealer last year how the interest for the Pan-American was... He said it was really good… But none of the people that were talking to him were BMW owners or serious ADV’rs… They were all HARLEY touring owners that wanted something different… These motorcycles will not be sold to the BMW crowd… They already have one of the best adventure bikes made, and aren’t going to experiment on what they will see as a MOCO whim…
I do think that the front light assembly was a brilliant idea… It’s like when a bat wing fairing is coming towards you, pretty much all motorcyclists recognize that it’s a Harley… That front light assembly will have the same affect… All adventure tour riders will know it’s a Pan-American... The engine power specs are excellent… But I wonder if they’re building them for the same 6 foot tall German riders that they build the big GS’s for… Good for Bob, sucks for Rocky

I'm interested. I have a BMW 1200GS and would be interested in an HD version. Bagged up and with different tyres in could be a proper "do anything" long distance tourer with modern electronics and suspension.
Of course, it would need to be competitive in price and performance to the BMW and that's an awful lot to ask for from HD.
But....I'll read all the reviews, go for a few test rides and see what it's like before making a decision.
