2-up x 270 miles in the hills and curves. Weather was supreme....one of the finest days July could ever deliver. We opted for a picnic lunch (our standard procedure) and enjoyed eating under a huge old oak at a Baptist church outside Wilmington.

We popped into the Xenia dealership and made a nice deal on some jackets. July is definitely the month for that. Kent, Larry, Ashley and Slim....just a few of the fine people who keep the wheels turning there. Slim fired up his new Road Glide Special just so he could damage my ears with the TAB Performance B.A.M. cans. Super aggressive sound but a bit mean for my tastes. From there it was slightly over 100 miles through the rolling hills and back to our farm.

You guys that have never been to the desert during the hot season would trip out if you knew how intense the heat gets. In Michigan you judged your car tires by tread wear but out here in the desert I've had outdated tires explode just sitting in my backyard.

Default 63 Miles on Saturday

Not a lot of miles but it sure was fun. We love going to Winston-Salem Dash baseball games. Yesterday Smokin Harley Davidson sponsored the ballgame and it was HOG night. We were invited to ride in with the Smokin staff and that was a hoot. We rolled out of the dealership with 17 employees and a half dozen folks like ourself. It was a fun and spirited ride over. The weather could not have been better.

Interestingly the Dash used to be known as the Warthogs. They played as the Warthogs last night and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with HOG night or not. They did get beat by the Jersey Shore Blue Claws 3 to 0. But the fireworks were excellent!

Thanks Smokin. We had a blast!

Lincoln and Maggie were also there with Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine.

Well another great weekend is in the books. Left from Harrisonburg VA late Friday afternoon heading to High Rock lake NC. Saturday rode to Speedway HD in Concord NC to test ride the new CVO RG then lunch with a couple of friends. Saturday afternoon and evening hanging out at the lake and enjoyed a Christmas in July party. Sunday a nice day stopping to visit friends as I made my way back to VA, 654 miles over the 3 days.

Only 176 miles yesterday (Sun 7/23) but it was the end point of a 2167 mile, 7-day jaunt to the USA Southeast.

A few rain issues and a big problem just south of Louisville on Saturday. Stuck in a miles long traffic jam as I-65 northbound went from 3 lanes to 2 then to a single lane near mile 112. Bike actually over-heated and would not re-start.

HOG's Roadside Assistance was useless (a chick from the Phillipines on the toll-free number was terrible). Thanks to Bluegrass HD's Jake (Service Manager) who tried to get me a tow when I called them for help. No towing services would respond. The bike finally re-started after an hour or so. I called Jake back and he suggested a visit to Bluegrass to ensure there were no, more serious issues. I rode over to Bluegrass (good verbal directions, Jake) and they were very busy but got me in and out in an hour. Great service! They confirmed the overheat (error code) and said everything else is okay. Got back on the road and finished Saturday with 315 miles and a loss of nearly 4 hours riding time.

The road trip was a bit taxing in the heat, but I got to add AL, GA, SC and NC to my "states visited" on bikes map.
