thanks. I had rough figured about $22600 based off msrp, freight, whatever the surcharge is, and tax.
I’ve gotten a quote of $500-$1500 more than that. Same quote “depending on what I add in finance” whatever that means lol

Lol Hell he could have quoted $23-$40k then if that’s what he meant. I figured maybe he meant extended warranties or something that I wouldn’t purchase.
Anyone know what the surcharge is? Should I ask It to be waived?

I did all of my negotiation over email, I do that with cars too. I ask for an OTD on the bike/car/whatever before I even walk in to the stealer. I ask for that OTD price with a breakdown of what's being charged too... that way I know what's in that price. You can negotiate everything other than state taxes and their other fees. If they don't want to play, there are other HD stealers that'll play. I did this with 4 in my area, and I got a firm OTD on my current ride! Painless when I walked in to take a test ride, then pay the man.
Good luck!

it depends on the definition of "doc fees". If it includes the state and/or county and/or city license plate and registration fees, the dealer has no control over that what so ever. It is whatever it is in your specific location. Now days those costs seem to be collected at the dealer, on behalf of the governmental entities. Years ago in Nebraska you went down to the county DMV and paid them there. "Doc fees" could also include an administrative charge from the dealer, which is basically paying for the secretary to type up the paperwork. Its negotiable and in Washington state its capped at $150, so the all try to charge $150. Tell them you don't pay a 'living wage' and to get a cheaper secretary, or offer to type it up yourself. This is the problem with 'out the door' pricing - you end up trying to negotiate with a dealer on some things that they have zero control over. They don't set sales tax rates, they don't set license fees.

Doc fees, taxes, surcharges, freight, none of that matters. The ONLY figure that matters is the out-the-door price.
Don't even get caught up in that game. Get their OTD price, and compare it against other dealers, and against your own wallet, as to whether you can afford the best deal they offer.
