Maybe put a sign on the speedo that says, "Smile, you're on camera" / "This bike has a tracking device installed". It's a bluff but they might think twice.
I just had a thought. If you have an iPhone, they have those Apple tag trackers meant for small items easily lost. I don't know if there's a distance limit though.

At the end of the day, if the bad guy wants to bike bad enough, they're going to get, even if I'm on it. You can bet though, at that point I put up a helluva fight. In the situation of the OP, his fork lock wouldn't be broken and the bike would likely still be there. Saddlebags and tour packs can be broken into. At the end of the day, people suck. Protect your stuff or suffer the consequence.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying I see enough to know how things are.

GPS trackers are available on Amazon for cheap. They work.

My Shovel has the old-fashioned "turn the wheel, line up the holes, apply padlock on lower triple tree" style. The padlock resides locked on the front floorboard mount when it's not parked. Disc lock also in the back.
A few times I have ridden through the gate at an event and park by one of my friends that have a vendor spot. They're happy to have it nearby, because it attracts business and some of their work is probably displayed on it. If it isn't me, someone is always watching that bike.

Well then....don`t insure your bikes if they`re not worth insuring..

You missed the point. Insurance isn't going to pay the worth of an older bike. Some bikes can't be replaced at any cost.

If you have to park outside/have an unsafe garage then get the Harley security siren. Mines 8 years old now, have done zero maintenance on it and it's like having a cop siren blasting in your ear. It is very loud, takes 1 minute to install and is not too expensive.

Zero maintenance in 8 years? I can recommend a good oil and filter.

I have my vintage bike insured with Hagerty for a "Stated Value" that will be paid in the event of a total loss.

You might be surprised what coverage you can get for old machines if you look around a bit.
