To many years in skull caps for a helmet and relying on my eyes & ears while riding the few times I have tried a full or 3/4 like the old classic Bell like my early days riding they just cut off too much of the sensory input I subconsciously rely on particularly my peripheral vision. Not a bad thing just off for me and my habits. 3/4 helmets aren't as bad but I haven't worn one since the 70's some time and Pitboss with the flaps zipped on are almost like them. I don't do the ear flaps till it
gets into 50's. But I don't have the bug problems most the rest of the country does either.

I use a Bell Pit Boss. (The ear flaps have speaker pockets and I have a set that I use with a Cardo unit for listening to tunes. If you're not in to that, you can unzip and remove the flaps on warmer days).
I have pulled the windshield off my Road King and tried some highway driving. I really didn't like it. Even with the windshield on, strong crosswinds on the highway move the helmet around. I need to cinch the strap tight to minimize the movement.
In my youth, I've owned three motorcycles with no windshields and never thought about the wind on the highway. But now in my older years, it bothers me. With no windshield, I'd go with at least a 3/4 helmet.

Helmets moving on your head it isn't sized right. Most people don't understand when you buy one it should a hair on the tight side, time & wear if forms to the noggin. Took me a while to understand this but after it was explained by a pro before I bought the last time its proven to be very right.
On my RK I get zero head buffeting with the stock windshield and seat with the Pit Boss, the shovel at highway speeds yeah you pick up some just any bike without that windshield. And yeah I've gotten real comfortable with that little change.
