Hauled a bike from FL to MN that way with no issues.

P.S. I did end up rolling the explorer but I wasn't pulling anything at the time.

My father in law rented one from them in July to tow his TriGlide form Florida to Pa and then back again, zero issues.

I would use your open motorcycle trailer, just tarp good and you will be fine. Motorcycles can get wet they do clean up.

Here is what I did:
Take the eye bolts that go through trailer walls that are used for hoisting the trailers and reverse them so the eyes are on the inside of the trailer. This gives you four solid tiedown locations. But a wheel chock in front of the front wheel and behind the rear wheel. you dont need the side rails but if you want you can go from the frame to them with tie downs for additional support. Just remember to reverse the eyes back when you return it. I forgot once and no one ever contacted me so that choice is yours.

A word of caution ... Using a tarp over the scooter may cause more harm then good ... A loose tarp can wreak havoc on the paint

When I hauled my Airhead Beemer to Daytona in an open trailer, in '92, I used a blue poly tarp to cover the bike. I tied it as securely as I could but during that trip, the blue poly from the tarp managed to transfer itself to the aluminum cooling fins on the Beemer's heads, leaving only the fibers on the tarp. It was no big deal but kind of a PITA to clean up. Lesson learned.

This Harbor Freight wheel chock will hold the bike upright with tie downs going to the eyelets on the chock.
But you need to figure out a way to keep the wheel chock from sliding on the trailer floor.
I've used this chock by strapping the chock to the front corner cleats of my pickup.
