No Lifetime
#11
I'm no longer a member, and I didn't pay the lifetime fee, so won't likely start that again. I'm just not seeing the benefit other than some of the people, which I can still ride with. But not sure about the direction HD is going with some things. Used to be if you built a raport with a dealer, you could get discounts on parts at the least. But it's become corporate dealers that seem very impersonal. And it's not that they aren't nice to me, know me by name and they offer free beer and pizza every time I stop by, but I miss the mom and pop local owned dealers. I think they (HD) have lost something along the way.
But I am a member in good standing with the AMCA. I let that one lapse for a while while I was too busy working to take advantage of it, but now that I'm fully retired I've been back and enjoying the benefits and events. And people.

Yes its a business....but as we've seen time and again, a business can nickel and dime their customer base to the point that the customer base kicks that business to the curb for good! lol
Me, I've never cared about the HOG membership, other that the two I got for both new bikes I've bought. I think I renewed my membership on the 17 one time. Never been to a HOG chapter meeting though.

I was talking to the local dealer last month, the MoCo have also screwed with employees benefits getting a really great deal on new bikes every year, the sales at this shop alone where down 35% just from that and the usual low mileage trade that came with it. Many where CVO’s because why not with discount.

But I know quite a few people, myself included that will probably never buy another new bike from them....personally my reason isnt due to bad business practices per se, rather I dont care for the direction of the increasing EPA restrictions.

I went Lifetime about 20 years ago, it was such a minimal upcharge to the 3 year renewal, I did it just for the convenience of not having to do it ever again. Was a good deal for a while with all the stuff the sent every year. But that has gone down to nothing, only get a free pin if you go to an event. Back then you got the Map, Rocker Patch and Rocker Pin, every year. Plus the 2 magazine, which became one and now is on line.
They really did drop the ball on that one, I agree with you. But I am still way ahead with the Lifetime, but only because I got it so long ago

Been thru all the positions of HOG, even Director for 6 years at our Mom & Pops Dealership. This really surprised me yesterday when a 10 year member went to get his Lifetime, and No Longer Available.
Not sure what Harley is thinking, they are phasing out the members that made Harley Successful.
Even heard a Rumor, in the near future you could only Order your Bike on line, none in store to test.
Poor Management always Distroys a Good thing.

The "benefits" from HOG have diminished for me (us) and we've been Life Members since '90 & '97 respectively.
Even though I NEVER went to a rally nor joined a "Chapter" I (we) did enjoy the magazines and the Handbook.
I'm also a Life Member of a couple of other groups and people like me are (affectionately) referred to as "deadbeats" as their is no monthly or annual revenue being received from them as some credit card companies consider those of us who pay our bills "in full" and paying them no outrageous interest rates.

2. Ride 365: Rewards.
- Ride 2,500 miles and get a $50 HD Digital Promo Card.
- Ride 10,000 miles and get a $100 HD Digital Promo Card.
These benefits seem pretty good to me. Especially if you are a life member and it doesn't cost you anything.
