Default If you're considering an Advanblack tour-pak, read this.

Last June, I bought an Advanblack King Tour-Pak. Reaper only goes into full baggertail mode a few times per year, including my annual summer road trip. This past weekend, I went to visit friends down in PA, and I set Reaper up with the tour-pak, and saddlebags for the trip. When I got down there, I opened the tour-pak, and found this: the lid had cracked, and a chunk of the ABS was missing where the hasp attaches to it. I got in touch with Advanblack about warrantying it, and was told the warranty had expired (it's only 6 months). The cost of a new lid + shipping (they want $150.00 just for that! ) is more than a good used OEM HD lid, and I would have to worry about quality/breakage again. So, I have a used HD lid on the way, which I snagged off Ebay for less than what Advanblack wants for the shipping alone!

The short warranty doesn't really bother me (although, I just assumed it was 1 year, like most warranties on new items). The flimsiness of the lid sure does, though. I make sure not to overload the luggage rack, and take care when opening and closing the lid... For the cost of the new Advanblack tour-pak, I could have gotten a nice used OEM HD one. Lesson learned...

Just wanted to give a heads up.

Cheers!

As of yesterday, she's at just around 239,000 miles on the clock, I do believe we will hit a 1/4 million miles this season!

Cheers!

This makes me so happy with my decision to buy an OEM tour pak.

Yeah, I read a lot of good reviews before pulling the trigger, but when I got the tour-pak, I found it to be quite flexible (certainly a LOT more flexible than my old HD tour-pak). I'm guessing that's because since it's made of ABS, while the HD stuff is made of SMC, which is a stiffer/stronger material. I've now ordered all the used OEM components to make a complete tour-pak, and it's coming in around a little over 1/2 the cost of the Advanblack. As I said: lesson learned...

Cheers!

Exact same thing hapend to my advanblack tour pak as well. The hinges & latch are for crap and yes the lid is flimsy also. My hinges broke in the first six weeks. They gladly sent me new ones but before they arrived the latch bar piece on the lid ripped right out of the lid. While I waited for advanblack to send me a new lid I attempted a fiberglass repair on it. The repair lasted for a bit but eventually broke again. I've had the new lid on for about a year and a half now. It is flimsy as hell and the pull cord is way too long which causes undue stress on the hinges from the weight of the lid. Advanblack was more than stellar with trying to make things right. The only thing they asked was where to send the replacements to. Unfortunately the product is garbage. IF I had to do it all OM over again no question I would pay up the extortion for the Harly OEM tour pak.

3 top ends (only one was required due to wear, the other 2 were for displacement increases (first from 88 ci to 95 ci, then to 98 ci). I wore out one set of Head Quarters cams (HQ-0039G), after about 175,000 miles, and now have Wood cams (TW6-HG) installed. After over 217,000 miles, the original crank finally gave out in 2022, so she now has an S&S stroker crank installed, so the engine is now 107 ci.

Cheers!

Yeah, I had read about the sub-par hardware, and I was planning on replacing the latch and hinges with HD units (guess that's happening now, haha!). I replaced the Advanblack knock-off lid tether with a genuine HD one, so the lid didn't over extend, which is probably why I never had any issues with the hinges. After not too long, I did have to play around with the latch to get it to work properly, but it always held, and I replaced their lock with a genuine HD unit coded to my ignition key, so I never had issues with the lock. I never read anything about the hasp pulling out of the lid, and breaking the actual ABS, though. That would have been a deal breaker for me. Hence this thread - to try to save others the same headache.

As to how Advanblack "handled" my case - they offered to sell me a new lid, with an insane shipping cost.

Cheers!
