pop goes the battery
my 47 flathead's battery was dead today, and when I went to see why, the drain tube on the 6vt battery was kinked and the three screw in plugs where broken off from the pressure and popped open and acid was everywhere. so my questions are what makes the pressure in the first place? and why is the battery dead now? it still has acid in it. and will it ever work again?

RE: pop goes the battery
Hope the acid didn't hurt much stuff. I would just go ahead and put in a new battery,,, old one might still be o-k,, but peace of mind comes in to play. Here's a link on info about why that happened,, read down to electrochemistry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead-acid_battery

RE: pop goes the battery
Lucky it didn't blow up ! Think of it like a boiling pot on the stove and if no vent then something has to give. Depends on how old it is but should not be dead for good. Did it over charge?? May be part of the pop issue. [&:]
