I bought my 99 eglide from a guy that says he never modded anything on the bike. My air cleaner cover says "screamin eagle" on the outside and the paper element is a cone shape. Is this a factory set-up?
When I look in my service manual the element looks more like a flat kidney shape.
What gives here?
I want to replace my filter but how do I know what to get? Is this a K&N filter? There is no Harley shop here, can I get this at an auto parts store?

 

Take the filter off and look on the inside... there will either be a K&N or Harley symbol and a stock number in there... sounds like a harley screamin' eagle stage one... change the filter to a K&N HD-0800 - you will be glad you did!

 

So what does this screamin eagle stage one mean? Is the jetting better or is this just a factory upgrade aircleaner?

 

It's an improved breathing system... usually coupled with after market pipes... more air in - more air out. Does not necessarily mean that the carb was rejetted... check the bottom of the carb and see if the jet plug has been drilled out.

 

Yes jet plug is gone but it had factory pipes.

 

If the a/c cover is the stock football-shaped one and only the center ring says "Screaming Eagle" then the the air filter has been changed. The SE medallion comes with the Stage 1 upgrade kit from Harley, along with the SE filter and a Dynojet kit for the carb.
