Default Best way to get bike on lift

Bought a Handy lift last year and really like. I've tried riding my dresser on it or pushing along side to get it on the lift. Still trying to figure out the best way to get it up there. Any ideas?

Also, the vice clamp is more of a pain than gain. Anyone take this off and just tie down the bike?

If you load the lift by yourself how would you strap it down without the vice first to hold it in place??????? just wondering on that one.......and second...when taking it off...I find that after losining the vice I just walk it backwards with the bike resting on my right hip..and using the front brake to control it.....................BC

I ride mine on the lift, you need the side boards for a place to put your feet.Otherwize you just might tip bike and all over. For me the vise is the cats meow.I roll mine off the lift just like recross does.

When I ride it up I use a wooden box on the left to lean the bike over on the stand. It seems to work. The Dresser is too heavy to walk up the ramp.

I ride up on mine also.

I have a couple of 4x4's that I keep near the lift - since I don't have the side extentions.

As dog155 said - the vice is slick. My 10-year old daughter can get it tight enuf to hold the bike upright. So she gets called away from the laptop or TV when I'm putting a bike up there.

- If we ever decide to move - I will have a house built.I want the garage floor to be recessed to acomodate two bike lifts.

To get the bikes on the lift....I start them and walk them up using the clutch as a means to control the power delivered.....works for me putting the dresser and the wing on our lift..the lighter bikes I can push them up......we don't have the lift with the side boards....don't know if I did if I'd have the nerve to ride them up???...

I ride mine onto the lift and step off it and secure it with the vice. I don't have the side boards, but I'm 6'3" so that's not an issue. I also walk it off with the front brake controlling speed. Awesome lift!
