I rode 6 miles over to my buddy's house and used his computer to order these patches from this website, wasn't hard at all.

I have looked at it and the biggest issue here is fuel. The long days in the Summer would make it possible to not have to deal with after dark wildlife, but fuel is a whole different issue.

Also, figure an average of 50 mph for calculations and you are looking at a 20 hour ride.

Even if I didn't get the patch I would like to make the attempt to see if my sorry butt can still take it. [:@]

I almost talked myself into the NewEngland run last summer, I thought that with 2 other long distance rider buddies it would be fun. The more I researched, the less interested I became mostly due to the structure. I dont care for the way THEY plan the route for you to take. Many of the roads, the posted speed limits are well below what you need to average just to accomplish the feat, and you wont know the route until right before you start. To top that, the actual "start" point could be 2 or 3 hours from home.
It started as the Saddlesore1K, then grew into the Bunburner1500, then just lost interest and the good weather moved to South Carolina! Figure "what the hell", I've already done 1000 miles in only 15-16 hours. Anyhow, Im not completely turned off by the idea just yet-It'll happen just dont know when.

I have a wild idea in the back of my mind to give it a try sometime, but it wouldn't be for any club thing, it would just be for the fun of it to see if I could do it. Anybody that knows me would know that I was telling them the truth if I told them that I rode 1000 in 24 hours or less, so the club patch thing really wouldn't matter to me. It would just be a challenge.

came across this thread while looking for a patch .. my buddy and I did it this past summer and I can tell you I wouldn't want to do it again unless it was an emergency.
We left Sturgis at 730 AM and planned to ride to Butte and spend the night, but when we got there at around 2PM, we were feeling good and decided to keep rolling to Missoula. After having dinner we figured Spokane isn't that far so off we went. We got in to Spokane and were still doing good and my buddy said "150 more and we have iron butts". I had never heard of it before so I said let's go. Stopped at the highway rest stop overlooking the Columbia river at Vantage, WA at around 2AM with 1016 miles on the odometer, laid down on the asphalt and used my rolled up vest for a pillow and took about an hour nap .. and I sure needed it. I rolled in to my driveway at 630am.
We can always look back on it but I don't plan to do it again
Cheers, Maury

It isn't the patch you want, it is the license plate bracket!!

The Saddle Sore is more a test of tenacity than anything else.
If you are hard-headed enough, you will get it done.
It isn't that difficult.

I plan all my fuel stops ahead of time which is really easy running a couple of mapping programs side by side. Just know your bike's fuel range at highway speeds.

Don't think of it as 1,000 miles.
It is just fuel stop to fuel stop.
150 miles, stop to get gas.
Get back on the highway.

The key is quick stops. Keep the wheels turning.
You can't ride fast enough to make up for a slow stop.

Ask any other specific questions you have.
There are several Iron Butt riders on here.
