I got it! I think the (St)Dealers take the tool kit out of the bikes, price 'em and put them on the accessories display!
Next they'll be selling the wheels seperately

Brian,

Don't get the HD tool kit that comes with the bike. I got one with my 2005 EG Classic, and with the exception of the 8 in 1 screwdriver, it is not very pratical. It is a hodge podge of combination tools that would be pretty hard to use if you really needed them.

Put your own set together that is specific to your bike. You can get quality tools from the local pawn shop for a fraction of the cost of new, and have a tool kit that you can really do something with.

My kit is not much bigger that the factory thing and I have a much better and easier to use selection.

Just an opinion.

Regards,

Bill

Yup the screw driver is the best part of the whole deal. HD does sell the screw driver seperate. Not sure of a part number, but I have seen it on the rack at the dealer.

I bought the HD kit and paid too much. Others can be had for much less.

Why does aHD kit contain a 10mm combo wrench. This is true for every Harley kit I have seen.

I think the 10mm is for the battery -- I know I was surprised when I needed it. If it's not the battery, there is an important 10mm lurking somewhere.

The 10 mm is also for the front brake caliper.

There's a pattern beginning to emerge here......if you own a RK, you won't need a tool kit. If you own a fancy dresser, better be prepared.....!

:-)

Wrong answer...

If you own a cruiser... be prepared to have a bunch of folks ask you to use your tools... We'll take care of you...

...but be careful when you open them up... I've had 10-15 people gather round and hands sneak from back and low to grab a tool or two for themselves... It reminds me of Vegas when you hit the jackpot... strangers try to reach in from the side to get a few coins...

I've found that the tool kit is great for installing accessories. Between those little tools that might come with the accessory (like little hex-head wrenches) and the HD toold kit, you usually have about everything you need to install whatever it is you bought. I wouldn't try to rebuild the tranny with it, but it saves a lot of time when slapping on new bling.

If one hadn't come with mine, I sure wouldn't shell out much money to get the HD one though. I'm sure it's way over priced and not as complete as something half the cost.
