I met a guy at the Iron Horse last summer that crashed after hitting a pheasant. It messed him up. I had a black bear run in front of me last fall but I saw him soon enough to be in no trouble, however a second sooner and it could have been trouble. I was country roadin' on an old Honda when I was about 18 and rounded a curve and there was a black angus standing in the road...talk about a panic braking event...lots of hazards out there that can just walk/fly/fall out in front of you...be safe!

Speaking of bears, a couple years ago at the coast (Florence, OR) we were staying just outside town for the Rhododendron Run and heading in to town early Saturday morning; a pack of 5 bikes riding 2 by 2 (one in the back), when we had a very large black bear come tumbling out of the brush and trees on the bank. It landed on it's butt in front of the first bikes looking dazed a bit, jumped up and ran, barley getting out of the way of us! It went running into the foliage on the other side. If we had left just a second earlier we probably would have had 5 bike on the ground and one pissed off bear! One of the closest calls I have ever had. BTW, I was in the second row, right hand position...
