Picking up a bike with a bad back.
I've watched videos on how to pick up a bike that has fallen over, but I am wondering if I will even be able to do this with my bad back. I have a ruptured disc (L5S1) in my back and manage to live with daily pain. I've had cortisone injections over the years to help manage the pain and I avoid lifting heavy things.
How much stress does this place on your lower back? What are my options (besides not dumping it in the first place)?

I would imagine that no matter how perfect your technique is, you're going to be putting some strain on your back. I think DannyZ71 probably gave you the best advice...ride with friends if it's a big concern with you. Good luck to you, either way.

My back isn't the best and I can't pick up my SG without help, when you're with a group there is always someone to help, and don't feel bad we have all done it, in my case more than once LOL

This absolutely true. I am a physical therapist by trade and can say that your back would be safe with good technique although you will feel the strain from the valsalva maneuver you are likely to do when you hold your breath and lift.

Gotta chime in with everybody else here...
My brother's back looks like a jigsaw after too many back surgeries and I've seen him pick up more than a few with little effort.
