Default German style helmets

I am looking to replace my current 3/4 helmet (which is about 5-6 years old). I wanted to get one of the German soldier style helmets, as I like the look of them. However, every one I have found seems to be only a novelty type, not a DOT helmet. (I may be crazy, but I would at least like SOME protection.)

Does anyone have any sources for one?

I remember somewhere that you could find one with the spike on top. The spike was plastic I think.

All excellent links... going to see about getting one here soon.

I was in a Harley Shop the other day in MS. I think it was called "Southern Thunder" and they had some what appeared to be DOT German style helmets sitting with the rest of their helmet selection. I didn't pay allot of attention because I can't stand helmets but it did not look like a novelty one. It was thick and looked heavy.

My helmet is a concession to the war. I wear a helmet, and the wife lets me ride!!! Actually I choose to wear one. It has already saved me a couple of times from flying debris. (Like a lug nut that came off a trailer and caught my helmet right in the front vent is a good example!)

Nothing wrong with wearing a helmet, some may even say it's a smart decision. I have a couple, a half I normally wear, a 3/4 and a full face for bad weather.

I bought a German DOT helmet from The Helmet Source a while back. It was so huge that I ended up sending it back. I am now waiting for a carbon fiber novelty helmet to arrive from ACC Helmets www.carbonfiberhelmets.com .
