I just installed a used S&S shorty E on my 82 shovel. I put in new jets 295 and 72. Udjusted per S&S manual even adjusted the cables (push pull). Bike wont idle below 1500 unless I manually close butterfly with idle screw all the way out. Could this be an intake leak? Did not replace the bands or the o-ring on the manifold as it was already together.

Intersting post for your first post! First, you would be better served in the shovelhead group instead of general chat. Soooo, suspicions went up in my head. Now, you installed a S&S on the bike, but you didn't replace the bands or o-ring because it was already together? Together where? Even if the manifold was bolted to the carb, you still need the rubber bands when you attach the manifold to the head. More suspicions in my head about this thread. On the slim chance you are serious, spray the joints around the manifold with WD-40 or some carb cleaner, if the idle changes, leak found. If not, back to square one and working on the carb itself.

Tough crowd...Me personally I would thought that was the very reason the first post was in the wrong area.
