The ratchet slings that are included, are for securing the bike to the lift. It's the operator, that makes a job safe or unsafe, no matter what means they use to complete the job.

There is a guy who sells plans for a do it yourself motorcycle lift on ebay. You make it out of 2x4's, plywood, and threaded metal pipe. You use a standard automotive floor jack to raise it. I've thought about giving it a try.

OK, you got about 15 large wrapped up in the bike. Am I right or wrong? And you don't have a 75$ bike jack. Hey just saying, block and wood guy. Thanks for the tip.

You may not be laying under it, but you are definately kneeling down beside it.
