Totaly agree with being safe rather than roadkill, i would keep an eye on it if it starts crackin then deal with it.
Like was said cut lengthwise not near as bad as across
If it dont crack cool, but would put some rustpaint on it with a modleing brush to keep rust away.

I am real happy with the amount of help i have gotten here.
Stay safe

i would worry more if the cut was going the other direction.
Reminds me of I guy i know who repaired a machine with a bead of weld, rather than grinding it flat he painted
the bead black and left a spot of white around the weld. Looks like a giant bird **** on the machine.

I know. I dunno, it's just something I would've never thought of ever needing a response on. If you were to have cut through into the pipe that would be another story. Nothing a decent welder couldn't fix either way.

Whatever you do don't start thinking about that thing failing when you are riding on the freeway at 80mph. Thoughts like that will linger for a long time and are really stressful because your mind keeps playing all the possibilities of hitting the pavement at that speed over and over and over until you go nuts and are afraid to ride. I'd just paint it and forget about it.

If your not gonna get a little weld touch-up, i would blend it out to a smooth condition then prime and paint it.

+1, and I'd do it before it cracks under stress.
