Rising Motorcycle Fatalities, who is to blame?

Believe it or not
Last summer I witnessed a guy riding down I95 in Westport, CT with a phone to his ear and talking. He had no windshield and was going about 55 to 60 mph. My first thought was this guy is nuts! My second thought was, how in the hell could he hear anything on the other end with the wind noise. Maybe he was just leaving a message, who knows?
But it does go to show you that cell phone usage may not be attributed only to those driving on 4 wheels.

I think a lot can be said for people taking up a bike to save on gas. Last summer I saw a lady riding one of those 200-250cc scooters wearing a long work dress tucked under her legs on the fricking highway. #1 a scooter even at 200-250cc has no business going 60-65mph on the highway and have some fricking sense, don't wear something that could catch air and tug at your seat. UGH!

There are idiots on 2 wheels, 4 wheels, 18 wheels and whatever other number of wheels a vehicle might have. You have to watch out for EVERYBODY. Even some of these so-called ''professional'' drivers are complete jerks and think they have more ability than they really have. I ride defensively all the time and try to avoid putting myself in a situation that I cannot get out of. I also try to leave as much space between other vehicles as is reasonable to do so. I see every other vehicle on the road as a potential threat to me and try to be ready to make a move if I have to. I don't ride scared but I do ride defensively.

In Saskatchewan they are introducing a new motorcycle "graduated license program". I guess it will divide the license into a three stage process. 'Learner', 'Novice 1' and 'Novice 2'. It is supposed to come out in 2011. I dont know what it will entail but it will involve restrictions and wont allow the rider to progress their license unless they stay accident and infraction free. Not sure what it is like in the States but right now you can right an exam, get your learners and go out and buy any sort of skoot you want. Its fine for mature learners who know what they can or can't handle but unfortunately you got a few bad apples that ruin it for the others. To top it off you have so many four wheelers who arent paying attention out there. I hate to bring up "loud pipes save laves" but sometimes I do wonder.
