I don't have a vest yet, but think I'll go shopping for one.

I had a similar experience with a guy wearing an old H-D racing jacket.. he was about 70+ but still wore his racing jacket.. it was worn in all the right places, had several slide souveniers also.. very proud of his jacket and was glad someone asked about it..

Okay... now that is a possible reason to consider a vest: To stitch/pin your memories thereon. Hadn't really thought of that. I still have some souvenier pins from my 2800 mile solo ride last June. They just sit in a box.

Other than the pins n' patches... what's the point of a vest?

It's part of the non-conformist uniform

Hmmm, All my old riding gear shrunk over the years, ... except my boots, they wore out. Cool story.

Very cool story. It's nice to see old vests with more than H.O.G patches and pins on them.

Keeps your shirts from flapping all over the place, and coming out of your pants. At least, that was the intention 30 years ago.
I guess now it's a fashion statement. I have a Celtic cross, a couple of pins, and an "I ride for Christ" rocker, but that's about it.
Thinking of adding my lifetime Handyman Club of America patch...

I wish you could have seen this dude.....anyways....he's wearing this old, very well worn leather vest that has all these old patches stitched everywhere on it.
It looked so cool. You could just see the history and miles that this man and his vest have ridden......

As he reached for a vest to try on I said to him, "I sure hope you don't plan on retiring that vest and buying a new one, that's gotta be the coolest looking vest I ever seen in my life."

He looked a little puzzled & pleased and says to me, "Really, you think so?"

Well without boring you with the rest of the conversation, we had a nice long chat about riding & the history of his vest.

I apologized to the sales girl that was helping us out for possibly costing her a sale......she said, "No problem at all, I don't think he should get a new one either."

Well after our chat.......the old guy says to me, "Thank you, I think I'll keep the vest I've got, nice to meet you, ride safe".......

I can only hope that I'll be as cool as that old man when I'm his age.

BTW....she made a sale, I bought a vest, hopefully it'll see a lot of miles.
Cool story, thanks for sharing. I would have told him the same thing. I have always wanted a leather vest too, but I don't think it would look right on me. I will stick with the leather jacket for now.
