Man, you ought to work for a MotoGP team. Their top speed record is only 217 MPH!

Check out the big brain on mcrider! I'll see if I can dig up the dyno sheet on the CBR. I wish I could take credit for the work-it was done by a pretty well known guy in the street racing scene in Tampa. It's been a long time since I owned that bike. Yes, not all the fastest bikes you find are on a track. I think the fastest bike I ever saw was a guy with a GXR 1000 with nitrous. Used to drag the causeways down there. Any rate, that bike was hard to hang onto (back to the thread at hand).

I seem to be having trouble finding out anything about a production CBR900RR doing 200 mph off the showroom floor. Could you point me to some facts?

Top-speed and acceleration are two totally different beasts. Which are we arguing? You could potentially have a very aerodynamic, low-power, light vehicle reach very high top-speeds with the right gearing and tune.

Harleys (left anything like stock) and even high-powered "naked" bikes will never compete with fairing-ed bikes at high speeds, but given how rarely I find a stretch where I can "confidently" break 150 on my Harley, the ability to go 200 isn't as interesting to me as the ability to go from 0-60 quickly, or even 60-90.

I assume there is a message there about HP ( more is better). However that Ultra is a different beast. The corvette runs good. Bought it new. Still runs good.

But my question dealt more with how much power do you need or can handle with an 800 pound motorcycle. Apparently you folks need and can handle more than I. Which confirmed my final thought. Your all crazy.

The 900RR was never close to 200mph. For example the 1996 CBR 900RR was tested by Motorrad to 157 mph. I don't know where you have gotten 200 mph from, but not even the latest 1000cc sportbikes reach those speeds. Those bikes, with about 160 rwhp can almost reach 190 mph. And you say you reached 250 mph with the same horsepower? You must know something that the manufacturers don't...

I would be very interested in seeing a serious test that has gotten the 900RR up to 200 mph.

Who cares if you can dig up that dyno sheet. Your bike couldn't get close to 250 mph with 160 hp. I've owned a 2007 Yamaha R1 which dynos around 160 hp, and that bike doesn't even break 190 mph.

Like someone else said, you should offer your "secret formula" to the MotoGP teams. Those bikes put out 220-240 hp and they can't even get close to 250 mph.

Don't you see anything strange in all this?
