We used to do that, especially when they had the horsehair oil filters. It's not a problem to do it, but I'd wager it's not needed on the new bikes.

I don't think it's worth the effort to bother, unless you know there's something in your crankcase that shouldn't be.

you can do it on the tc by running the engine a little (until clean oil comes out) before putting your new filter on. i think they used to call this the '5 qt oil change'....

i don't bother with it either. even if you went way beyond the point of where you should have changed your oil, the residual is not gonna have that much effect on the new oil.

I don't run mine long enough to worry about it. The boys in my shop bust my ba%#s about how often I change my syn, they want it to put in their rides. It's all good.

With the new filter, that residual will get cleaned up. Of more concern IMO is filling the new filter with oil.

I do it because it is simple to do and I enjoy servicing my bike.

I do it because I want my bike to last forever or longer.

Only for the *****! It is not required. Most all oil changes are done way too often, exactly what the oil giants hope we keep doing.

Now that my head has stopped spinning from reading this post, and agree it is too ****. But I will raise this question, last time I changed my oil I noticed a plug on the bottom of the sump, couldnt this be pulled and the sump will drain?
