HELP!!!! MSRP for a Road Glide Ultra?
#32
Went to the dealer today to trade in my 2010 Heritage on a Road Glide Ultra in Merlot Sunglo. They are giving me 15,000 for the Heritage and charging me MSRP on the 2011 Road Glide Ultra. We were just about to do the deal but they wanted a cashiers check for the difference instead of a personal check. So I have a night to think about it more. Am I crazy for paying MSRP for the 2011 Road Glide Ultra?
Second question, is about the Extended Warranty. They haven't told me how much it is yet, but I'm guessing the dealer makes a lot of money on them. Are the prices of the Extended Warranty's different from dealer to dealer.

in regards to the ext. warranty, i understand that you have until the factory warranty expires to take that boat. of course, the longer you wait, the more expensive it becomes. also, you can get the ew from several places. it does not have to be from the original selling dealer. zanotti's discounts them.....
i didn't buy the ew either though. i don't expect this bike to die after 2 years, and if it does, i'll fix it. either by hook or crook, but i will ride.

Congrats on sealing the deal & even finding one better. Did the 1st dealer explain why they wouldn't take your personal check? Guess it's their loss b/c they didn't get the sale. Good for you - enjoy!

They didn't say but they called me the next day to see if I was coming back and I said no because I was buying from another dealer. Then I went back to them 2 days later to cancel the extended warranty from the bike I traded and they told me that they have changed their policy because of losing my deal. I ended up paying the MSRP price and in Maryland, every dealer I went to was holding fast on the freight and set up charge but their prices were different on the set up.

That freight and set-up charge is pure BS. The MSRP is for a motorcycle from a local dealer. You are not buying a "motorcycle kit in a box" from a distant supplier. How come each dealer charges a different price, some $200, some $1,000? Ever pay a car dealer to prep a new car? They will charge whatever the market will bear, or people are dumb enough to pay.

I sold Toyotas 20+ years ago, and we routinely listed Additional Dealer Markup of $1000 or more right on the window. MSRP is only a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price....
I bought my RGU locally, but shopped elsewhere. Local deal was about $3k better. Part of that was lower prep, part was much better trade-in allowance, and part of that was because we've bought seven new HDs from him in six years....
Shop around, buy where they treat you the best.

Yes, for those that are planning to buy, shop around! Even if everyone is selling at MSRP, there are other ways to get a better deal. My deal turned out to be about $1,700 better from one dealer to another in the same city. I got $500 more on trade in, $500 gift card, first service free, and they moved some parts from my old bike to my new one for free.
