another 6 speed harley transmission failure

What does it sound like
Every now and then I hear a very quick kind of a metalic chirp sound from that area on the left side around the tranny when I start from a dead stop. Could this sound be the bearing???
I know my belt is a little on the tight side. I am going to loosen it. It can't be helping that bearing

I heard a squeak, and a faint rattling/rumbling. Dealer first thought engine main bearing failure, then discovered trans bearing when opened up inner primary. Quote to fix is $2300.00. Don't have extended warranty. I have faith in the Motor Company and its products. Seems a little misplaced today.

Noises
When the bearing goes out, it allows the trans mainshaft to move. I don't know if you could hear this or not over all the other noise from the primary. They told me at the dealer that belt load could contribute, but they thought torque load on startup was a major factor. They had only seen this on the heavy touring bikes.

The 2006 Dynas had the bad inner primary bearing...the 2007> 6 speeds have the bad mainshaft bearing. Harley doesn't have a very good design on their 6 speed transmissions. They use the wrong bearings and don't have enough supports. They never had these problems with the 4 speeds or 5 speeds which is very telling. I ended up trading in my 06 because of all of the issues.

This may help you out....

I got 22k on my 07, going strong. Change my fluid every 10k. Take care of the bike and it will take care of you.

Built a 103 in my 08 EG. Ran Amsoil gear oil in the tranny.
AT 30,000 miles I had a humming sound coming from my tranny. Kinda sound like something was out of round
Took it to a HD dealer and they tore it apart. Said all the bearings in the tranny had to be replaced.
So I had one on its way on goiny ou6.
Asked me to not run gear oil in it and see how it runs.
It was covered under warranty which was within like 6 months of running out.
Been running Harley SE oil in the tranny's since.

My Inner Primary Bearing Fails at 41,000 miles
Oh well, at least the sound was completely understood when I heard it. Just as you have stated....Thanks for all of your post.
I have thus far removed the inner primary, ect... The inner primary bearing was about to be toast. Visual signs of failure on 4 roller bearings but none missing. The inner race hasn't moved but has one ugly spot.
Replaced the starter clutch with ease (cause I was in there---also replaced multiple seals).....thanks again for your post. Guess that chrome inner primary and SE comp. was calling.......lol
PS: everything else looks great in there...I ran Syn 3 for 30K then switched to Redline Primary
