I thought the "tanning" process was supposed to keep mold in check on all leathers.

I've worn the same chaps (azzless ones, no less), since 1994. They are as good as new.
Wash with saddle soap, dry in sun, let warm up, rub in bees wax, wipe off excess. Do that to all my leathers, including saddlebags and all leather bags. I NEVER use anything with silicone or animal byproducts, such as Dubben, Mink oil, etc. These will just break down the fibres in the leather and destroy your item over a period of time.

If he would of had silicone on the leather he would not have mold on it.

My holsters and gunbelts and stuff, hanging in the basement, mold all the time. No bog deal. I just wipe them off and use a little saddle soap.

This is the stuff I use, and it's great. They have some before and after pictures on the site that show what you can expect.
