Weather/ temp. and riding
#11
Hi everyone. I just want to throw this out there and see how riders differ in respect to riding and the weather. I know that here in the Adirondacks, I ride in temps. as low as 45-50 degrees, and that usually means colder due to the winds here. But, the riding season is short enough here that you want to get every second you can in.
The question is: where do you live, and what weathyer do you ride in?
Northern Canada, everything except snowing & ice on roads
What temp. range is most enjoyible for you to ride in?
Everything above 15Celsius
What temp. range, and what weather do you cut off
your riding at.
Anything below -10Celsius and a blizzard
What clothing do you find helps you ride in colder
weather comfortibly?
Heated jacket liner, gloves & sox and a layer of fleece underwear(top & bottom), corduroy pants, heavy leather chaps, deerskin pull-over shirt, long sleeved shirt, t-shirt, Airforce issue "Bunny boots, full face helmet and a Heely-Hansen full body snow-suit.

( BC and I've been known to ride even when it's snowing though I prefer it warmer
What temp. range is most enjoyible for you to ride in?
( I prefer southern Nevada and Arizona if that's any indication)
What temp. range, and what weather do you cut off your riding at.
( when it gets down to -10 -20 I tend to stay home unless I have no choice)

Well here in Ontario Canada we salt the roads , so once we get snow and that starts I put the bike away . That said I will ride in weather about 7C (45F) wearing my half helmet with a bandana , a t shirt with a long sleeve thin fleece and my leather jacket , breifs with long johns and my jeans , a mid weight pair of socks in my Harley boots and a pair of leather gloves with that Thinsulate stuff liner in them . But I prefer to ride in temps between 15C (60F) and 27C (80F) . In my youth I rode from snow till snow and sometimes IN the snow . So I also saw alot of rian . These days I'm not sure a big fan of the rian , but if it's warm enough out and I have to I will .

The weather here is so good that some of us ride year round despite the cold.
My cold weather gear is effective enough that I have ridden in 8-10 degree weather without
freezing any vital parts.
Winter gear..
First Gear Kilimanjaro soft-armored textile jacket. Very heavy, but wind and rain proof.
Xelement leather pants and chaps.
Full face or modular helmet.
Neck protector. (Damned if I can remember who made it..)
BMW Allround boots. These are my normal wear. They are waterproof, easy to
walk in and easy to tuck pant cuffs into.
Gerbing heated gloves and boot sole inserts with dual controller. Some people think
these get too hot, but not with a controller and not in near zero temps.
Denim shirt, t-shirt, light sweater, etc and you're ready to go.

The question is:
1) Where do you live, and what weather do you ride in?
I live in Central Wisconsin. I ride in Spring, Summer, and Fall weather, rain or shine.
2)What temp. range is most enjoyable for you to ride in?
My favorite range is 65-75 degrees.
3)What temp. range, and what weather do you cut off your riding at?
My riding is not cut off by temp, but by road conditions (snow/ice). That usually occurs between sometime in November until sometime in March.
4)What clothing do you find helps you ride in colder weather comfortably?
For the upper body a good outer shell that stops wind (leather for me), and layers underneath.
If I'm riding in the 30's I dress like I'm snowmobiling.
Chaps on the legs is a must (or leather pants if you prefer).
Hands -- heated grips preferred; otherwise a nice pair of gloves.
Head -- stocking cap, goggles, and if necessary a neoprene face covering, bandanna, or balaclava.

I live in North Alabama and ride nearly year round. I ride no matter how hot it is and my record for cold weather is about 22 degrees. I use heated gear (gerbings) in the winter and sweat my butt off in the summer. I like to ride when the weather is a little cold but not cold enough for heated gear. Maybe 60s or thereabouts.

To tell the truth, after this summer of incessant 90 degrees plus, I'm looking forward to some cold weather.
