From the Chilhowee site:
http://www.chilhowee.net/whips.html
A Little Bit of Yesterday

There's a history behind these old-school biker or "getback" whips. Back in the day, you'd see bikers sporting whips - hanging from their clutch or brake levers as they rode. The leather whips were usually made from the biker's club colors - to display their colors and for club recognition. But the whips were a whole lot more than just leather club colors. A biker whip could be quickly released and used "in case of emergency."

Screw the WHIP spend the $48.00 on decent hollow points for the Glock. If having to defend yourself means relying on a whip, you're history already. Even Indy knew that.

Would anyone care to see what would happen if anyone swung a short whip at me? The idea that these could be used as a dangerous weapon is ridiculous unless you are attacking a moron. Swing one at a car? All you got to do is turn the wheel and the battle is over. Car 1 - Bike 0. Best use i have found for mine beside decoration is sneaking up behind the ladies and making a low upswing. It tickles.

It could take out your side window though in a blink of an eye, and it might or rather should cause you to back off, if you had any sense, if not proceed at your own risk..
It's not meant to be a "dangerous weapon". It's meant to give you nice little warning..
I think it would me, if some bad *** patch holder broke out my side window with one, because I was being a DF, but then again I always show respect if I'm in that situation, as I think most would.

Indiana Jones carried both a whip and a gun while riding a motorcycle through Germany.
