Oil change interval
Just wondering who changes their oil in the spring/fall and who follows the maintenance schedule?
I ride my bikes March - November, but sometimes don't ride enough to reach the next oil change interval. Should I dump my synthetic oil with 3K miles just because the bike set idle for 3-4 months or just keep riding until the next interval?
I always change my oil at the beginning of the riding season, but im wondering if im wasting money by changing before I hit the oil change interval?
Thx.

Depends on how and what conditions you ride. You have to remember you have an air cooled engine, much harder on oil than liquid cooled. I use synthetic and still change mine at 2500 to 3000 miles.

Time or Miles whichever comes first. Even when sitting the oil is oxidizing. The additive packages in the oil are breaking down and it is accumulating moisture. Additionally, the impurities from combustion and the operation of the machine along with the moisture in the oil are recombining as acids that are attacking the internals of your bike. If I had to let the bike sit for any extended period of time (not an issue here in So Ca) it'd get fresh oil in all three holes before I threw the blanket over it for the winter, and then I'd warm it up once in the spring when I took it out of storage, and I'd change the oil in all three holed again . . . even though the oil probably has less than 100 miles on it. If you don't put that many miles on it over the course of your normal riding season then these may be the only two oil changes you do every year.
