I have to pick up a vest, there are none locally, and I'm not sure how to size it. I want one to wear over my jacket. My jacket is a HD mens large. Do I order a large vest as well or go with an XL?
Get a large vest with lace-up sides. The sides let you tighten it up to wear alone in summer or let it out to wear over a jacket in winter. The "Stock" vest is a good one with lace sides and a plain back, since I'm assuming it's for some type of patch.
If you go a size up, to XL, your vest will be too loose and will beat you at high speeds and it will suck. Also, the HD brand Chinese vests are already cut big.
a good vest like a Joes or 415 will be true to size. I wear lg shirts, and run an xl vest. fits fine with a jacket underneath, flannel, hoodie or just a t-shirt. If the leather and liner are heavy enough it won't flap when you are riding. Those chinese ones that run $99 are costume grade vinyl like leather and are flimsy. the side laces, chain extenders, etc look as lame as they sound. Take a few measurements and order the right size..or hell pop for 2 cuts. one for winter time and one for any other time.
Well, a couple of reasons. First off, for my patches, and secondly, probably most importantly, I don't often ride with my jacket, and I ride a nightster, so I need pockets for wallet, phone and smokes.....lol!
My first ride after buying the bike, I was just wearing a HD shirt with a breast pocket. I heard at ting ting going down the highway and thought it was the gremlin bell my wife put on an hour earlier. First stop I realized it was my iphone.....): Found it, safe and sound thanks to my destroyed aluminum case. And I can't stand stuffing everything in my jeans.....saddlebags don't work on a nightster with a passenger.....maybe a fork bag....?
