Default Winter Riding

Cold doesn't bother me, but around here we throw a LOT of salt down when it snows, so, once the salt trucks come out I keep the bike garaged until we have a few street cleansing rains. I assume we all try to avoid snow and ice, but is anyone out there unconcerned about getting salt spray on their bike?

I ride in the land of the salt truck.....we even have a salt mine here under Lake Erie. But when its real heavy I stay in until it's clear. But you can get a product from West Marine called "salt off" which is a rinse for boats in salt water areas that will neutralize the road salt.........but you have to make certain you wash that off too. I can't stand looking at my bike on a 55 degree day here so I ride all year. Keeps the cabin fever away........

I try to wipe the bike down after a day in the salt. Although, I'm not as **** about it as I was when I first got the bike. As long as the roads are clear of ice and snow, I'll ride.

I avoid riding whenever there's a chance of getting salt on my bike. Salt is bad news and they use alot of it in Omaha, NE.

yeah I have the same concerns with salt. I try to avoid riding when they sprayed the road with. But I ride all year round. The best thing is to rince it off if you ride on it.

We get very little snow here in the Central Arizona Highlands but when we do they put down cinders instead of salt.

I plan on riding this winter - but once salted, only after it rains and washes down the salt.

However - I have a question.

I have stock "cast aluminum" wheels - and aluminum pits very easily with salt. I would lik eto get chrome wheels eventually, but HD has virtually no selection at this point.

Anyway -does anyone have experience with road salt on cast wheels - and how to combat that in the winter?
