I am interested in buying my son a Harley, currently we bought him a VTX, but looking for a good first harley for him. Here's some needs I think he/we need. Going to sell the vtx, looking for a bike $6K-7K, first real road bike for him. He s 6'1" 225lbs , dr's say he'll be about 6'4". He has been riding since he was seven and is a pretty good rider as being respectful to the two wheel concept. Need the bike to be comfortable for a long distance bike trip..father/son summer trip as well around town bike. So..anyone have an idea?

Something with forward controls I would bet. Older WideGlide or some other Dyna with forwards. Most anything besides a Sporty. I think he might feel a little cramped on that. I have a nephew that is 6' 4" and he would be cramped on a Sporty with forwards. Boy is all leg.

I'm partial to the Electra Glides myself, having bought an 07 FLH after many years of not riding and it took very little to adjust to it. Get the Ride Like A Pro DVD and both of you practice the lessons. Ride Safe!

You could also go with just about any bagger and put HWY pegs on it so he can stretch out on a long ride if he feels the need to get his feet off the boards.

No suggestions, but I was wondering if you were interested in adopting another son?

He's # 4 and I can't afford anymore....and I will say he appreciates it. He does well in school, soon to be an eagle scout and doesnt get in trouble. I wasn't able to do it with the other 3 as we were in different places at this age. Hopefully I can start a tradition here and he enjoy's the open road as much as I .

Dyna or Softail, lots of real nice ones out there in your range.

Keeping in mind your price range and his size, dyna sounds like a perfect fit. Sporty would be too small, im sure there are some tall folks that ride sporties. he's too young for a tourer. softails maight be in the range. but im partial to dyna's.

You should be able to find a nice 04 05 06 07 dyna in that range with fairly low miles.
