DONT DO IT!!!. I just saw an Ultra at the dealership today that was totaled. Guy wiped out on salt in an intersection. Broke a bunch of ribs and punctured a lung.....

AND it rots your bike

Salt penetrates into places you can never wash off. Maybe a long ride in the rain. It's very corrosive. I don't ride once the salt comes out.

I grew up in Cleveland and worked in the autobody industry while I lived there. I learned a lot about rust. In 1980 I moved to CA. I absolutely could not believe how rust-free vehicles were in CA. And I'm not talking about the rust you can see on the exterior surfaces. The wheels, the brakes, the chasis components, the exhaust system, nuts and bolts, etc., it's all clean.

I don't care how well you try to wash salt off, it ain't happening. It gets into crevices and short of disassembly you can't get it all out.

It won't take long to see the toll if you decide to ride in the salt. Obviously, your bike isn't going to fall apart, but I gaurantee that you will see the effects of even a few times in the salt. Once is too often for me.

dont do it.. they arnt using rock salt anymore in ohio.. they use a salt water brine, it is like acid. i had a 97f150 it went from showroom condition to literally more rust then paint in 2 years ..this stuff is nasty. i personally think it is some kind of conspericy to destroy cars, that way people are forced to buy another one and pay all the taxes, and employ dozens of businesses.. you don't want that on your bike. the brine dont wash off, it just gets pushed to hard to reach places, before you know it the chrome is beyond repair and the frame is rusted through

My Nightster has been totally covered white from running on damp salt at Bonneville, looked like it had been in a blizzard. Wash it off, good to go.

Yes they are...the streets in Cleveland are loaded with it. ODOT uses brine on the highways.

We all buy "beaters" up here for winter months. My Tahoe, Miata and Road glide are put up for the winter. 81 Gold wing, suburban and 94 Caddy see the salt. A good two day soaking rain in March and the nice toys come out to play.

The company I work for sells truck load after truck load of salt for roads.
A by-product of the mining.
They love it when there's a mean winter back east/up north.
