a friend told me this story several years ago. he is an "original" for vague but accurate typecasting

he is a small man 5'2" tops, but in '57 he is the man about town. body built like a rock. rides a Cushman scooter. the man.

he decided to ride to California. Scooter would only do about 55mph tops. this is in the late 50's and interstate highways namely IH10 dont exist. he says the bike did fine till he hit Arizona when he could only top out at 45mph full throttle.

I asked him why the drop in Arizona. "I picked up a hitch hiker".

 

I like that story. A friend of mine had a Cushman a couple of years before '57 and it would in fact carry two over the speed limit (maybe 55 at the time).
