Used to wear half helmets, but now we wear 3/4 helmets. My OL is blonde and at speed, the wind blowing in one ear & out the other made a horrendous noise. With the 3/4 helmet, she's no smarter, but at least the noise is gone!

Seriously, 3/4 helmets are great for blocking out wind noise and you still get to feel the wind in your face.

On my Duece it's earplugs for me regardless of what helmet I'm wearing. On my Limited with much better wind protection I'll usually only wear the plugs for long rides.

Ear plugs can be a little uncomfortable when you first start using them but become less of an annoyance over time.

Earphones with sound dampening and good fitting earpieces. Dont always use the music, but hardly any wind noise. Still hear the pipes and cagers tho.

just bought a 3/4 and love it- had a full face modular job and it was way to restrictive turning my head for me. i was also tired of doing the ear plug thing every time I rode too. added bonus with the 3/4 for me is the faceshield so i can wear my regular glasses - so it killed two birds with one stone for me

Have to agree with the rest about ear plugs.

Thanks to working around jets, helicopters and way too much time on the range my hearing in one ear is 1/2 with tinnitus in the other. Mind you we always wore sound suppressors.

Now days it ff & earplugs.

Remember eventually your family will get tired of you turning the volume on the t.v..

Used ear plugs most of my life at work so they feel normal..

Between the pipes and wind noise I still use them when I ride..

I still ended up with ringing 24/7 after working 41 yrs in a factory.

Just protect them as much as U can. the ringing isn't fun..

After asking a similar question to this forum and trying several that were recommended by members, I have settled on the SureFire Sonic Defenders EP3 ear plugs. They are comfortable for a full day's wear are not obvious and you can still carry on a conversation when wearing them. The are more expensive than the disposables (obviously) but are more comfortable and last well.

Get a digital music player (think iPod or Smart-Phone) and noise canceling ear buds. Eliminates most of the noise and you get to rock-out to your favorite tunes while riding. Win/Win.

Ear plugs and a skull cap, or just ride with a tail wind, if the wind is traveling at the same speed as you then no wind noise.
