Mythbusters addressed the issue of steel toe boots chopping your toes off on one of their programs. They're conclusion was NO! you wouldn't get your toes chopped off. If enough weight/force dropped on them you might get them smushed a little bit, but not chopped off.

or not? I jsut picked up some Dr. Martens steel toe boots last night. Not the new made in china ones, but some old ones that are made in england at a thrift store. I am very happy about this as I have been lookng for these for quite a while, but jsut didn't want to pay $100 for a pair. I am a cheapo wen I can be. Not working really adds to this. Anyway I jsut wanted everyones opinion on wearing steel toes boots while riding. My opinion used to be that in case of an accident it was not a good idea to wear steel toe boots as your toes could get chopped off. Now that Ihave a pair I think my opinion is changing. What do you all think? And yes, I still will wear my sidi boots as well.

I always wear steel toed boots because the toe doesn't get crushed and look like crap when someone steps on them like the cardboard toed ones do.

nothing wrong with steel toes , like said before , if it can bend the steel , your toes would be goners anyhow. I don't wear them simply because the pair of boots I liked didn't have them .

I have been wearing the same pair of Doc's Steel toe boots everyday for the last 2 years. I'll be replacing them with a brand new pair as soon as I get my tax return. I put Dr. Scholls Gel in mine since I'm sometimes in them for 14 hrs. at a time. As far as riding goes, if its hot out I'll be in a T shirt and Vans skate shoes. Only wear the boots if I'm going to work or it below 60*.

The cold thing would be the only thing that would get to me...
That being said... I think my next pair of boots will be these:

I like how they say "Electrical Hazzard".... Guess no more riding through puddles by the power station for me.

Twenty years in the Navy with steel toed boots. I currently use steel toed boots at work only! They come off as soon as I get off work. I ride with soft boots only and find them much more comfortable.
