Nomenclature Confusion
I know this has been discussed before, I just read 15 strings on it... So save yourself from saying that...
I had a question on HD Nomenclature. It doesnt make any sense to me.
Here is what I found here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-...l_designations
The first letter may be one of the following:
K (1950s flathead small twin)
E, F (1936–* single cam OHV big twin)
U, V (1930–48 four cam flathead big twin),
D, G, R, W (flathead small twin),
X (Sportster OHV)
V (VRSC)
Since 1984 only F (Big Twin), X (Sportster) and V (V-ROD) have been used regularly.
Letters are appended singly or in pairs, as follows:
B (BLACKED OUT i.e. Street Bob, Night Train, and Cross Bones models)
C (Classic or Custom)
CW (Custom Wide, e.g. 2008 Softail Rocker)
D (Dyna chasis or Softail Deuce)
E (Electric start)
F (Fat Boy (1990–present); Fat Bob (2008–present) or Foot-shift (1972 and prior))
H (Handlebar- or Front-end-mounted fairing, e.g. bat wing fairing/quick release windshield.)
I (Fuel injection)
L (Low Rider)
N (Nostalgia as in Softail Deluxe/Nostalgia/Special and Nightster in Sportster family)
P (Police)
R (Race, Road King, or Rubber-mount)
S (Sport, Springer)
SE (Screaming Eagle)
ST (Softail)
T (Frame-mounted fairing)
WG (Wide Glide)
U (Ultra)
X (FLHX Street Glide, Sport in Dyna models, and Street Glide in Touring models)
XT (T-Sport Dyna Model).
My question is this... Why is a Street glide a FLHX? Shouldn't it be a FEILHX Why are some things just removed from the Nomenclature?
another great thread I found here is this one

i'm sure there are others more knowledgeable than i, so i'm not gonna pretend to be an expert in it, but all the models with the fat front forks are FLs, ie. FLHX for street glide, FLTRX for road glide custom, FLSTF for the fatboy, FLD for the dyna switchback, etc.

If you have read all of the available threads on this topic, Google searched it, read Wikipedia about it and it still doesn't make sense...IT NEVER WILL. Apparently, there isn't a set formula HD uses.
