first harley help me identify it
a buddy of mine has paid me for the work i have done on his ranch by giving me a harley. i am having issues decoding the vin and thought i would ask you guys for help. the title and frame both say ca748038. i am assuming this is a rebuilt bike because thats not a harley vin. the engine code is BBLF011682. from what i gather on that engine is its an evo 1340. the engine has an s&s carb on it as well. he knew nothing about the bike. he bought it years ago and after 5 back surgerys he only had a chance to ride it once. the things i do know are the bike has 93 original miles and its a 1985. ill try and post a pic of it. im trying to get the bike started but i know i need a starter solenoid and a relay. just trying to make sure i get the right parts. thanks for any and all help guys. please dont beat me up too much.

My guess is an after market frame that resembles an early 80s FLH. That horse shoe oil tank throws me. Fenders and tank look Harley. Probably a custom build with some Harley parts on a after market frame. The kicker tranny is probably aftermarket also.
Does the title say "special construction" or salvage?

HD Vin Codes are 17 digits so neither of those numbers mean aything.
You shouldn't need any parts if it only has 93 miles on it.
Odds are you need to drain the tank and run carb cleaner through it.
Check tires for manufacturers date, even with tread it's probably going to need a new set right away. There may be some rubber hose or seal issues after you get it running.
The main thing you can count on is the battery must be replaced. Without a new battery fully charged and clean, tight connections for the main wiring you will have a tough time getting it to start. It may give you indications of starter and solenoid issues otherwise, but they should not be bad at almost no miles on it.
I would also change out all the fluid, HD 20 w 50 in the motor and with a new filter, typically the same lube in the gearbox and primary from HD. (there's a million and one choices if you don't use HD).
