Default Pushrod adjustment with travel limiters

Stupid question probably, but this will be my first time adjusting pushrods. I'm going to install 48H cams, Gaterman lifters with travel limiters and S&S Quickee pushrods, hopefully next weekend. The lifters will be dry at install.

If I understand correctly, I need to do a "bottom up" adjustment. Meaning I need to extend the pushrod until the lifter bottoms out, but without compressing the valve spring. How will I know when the lifter is bottomed out so I can back it off 6 flats and lock it down?

Will I still be able to spin the pushrod with the lifter bottomed out?

When the rod doesn't spin freely you're pushing against the valve spring.

My understanding of hydraulic lifters is they need to be submerged in oil prior to installation so that they "bleed down" properly when you set the pushrod height. Once they bleed down, the pushrod should be able to spin when rolling between your fingers but have no up & down movement.

I've always soaked my hydraulic lifters prior to installation. I don't know why you would install them "dry".

From what I've read about travel limiters, it's supposedly easier to install them dry.

Ok, so even with the lifter spring fully compressed I'll still be able to spin the rods? Thank you.

You will feel it when the pushrod starts pushing against the valve spring. They're stout.
Practice a few times. Extend until you feel pressure and the tube binds then shorten tube. You'll get the feel of it. The lifters will be oily so take your time. Make sure the lifters have bottomed before doing the 6 flats if that's what called for. (follow the directions closely). Travel limited lifters don't leave you as much room to make errors as normal lifters.

Thanks, if my calculations are right it should take about 2 1/2 turns to bottom them out, so I'll have an idea when I should be getting close.
