can anyone shed some light on this price ?

I'm going to change my fuel filter on my 06 streetglide and called the dealer for price on parts to do this with the recomedation on changing the fuel line that has the quick connect end on it. they called me back with a quote of 179.06 and for the life of me i cant figure out how this adds up. has anybody done this and does this price sound about right?

purpledeuce 04-29-2013 08:21 PM

They may be including labor as well

blackpearl 04-29-2013 08:28 PM

no, no labor parts only thats why i ask

NSCoyote 04-29-2013 08:44 PM

dude shop around there has GOT to be a better price on it somewhere

Jonesee 04-29-2013 08:44 PM

Which line is it?

The filter is $39.95 at JPCycles.
Is there a reason you are changing the line too?

blackpearl 04-29-2013 08:49 PM

i know i cant get a better price on the filter im kinda wondering what other parts are adding up to 179.06 . i mean i know i need a new gasket and screws and also that the fuel line from the quick connect isnt cheap but what else is there that i might be missing ?

Had the ole pin Hole in the gas line 2 yrs ago... 500miles from home at 32K

I rolled in to Charlies in WV and they replaced all hoses and filter, along with all the parts that was needed...

Cost me around $330 If I remember right.. But what the hey.. On Vacation U want to be able to ride more than 80 miles before she starts missing out and U have to fill up again..

I was tickled chitless just to get her running tip top again.

..

definitely one thing to be on vaca and breakdown alwawys just greatful to be back up and running just wondering what the parts should be and actually be costing me since im doing the work myself ?

A fuel filter costs in the neighborhood of 25.00. I'd try another dealer.

Got my fuel filter from Dennis Kirk, $35, I think. Gaskets and screws from H-D was another $20. Filter came with 2 hoses of similar material as stock and a couple Oeliker clamps. I had already bought the Gates submersible line from Amazon at $15 each. FWIW.

OK now the obvious question...why not do it yourself for half price? Are you a rich guy?

ChickinOnaChain 04-30-2013 06:45 PM

Dealerships get the part and times that by 5 to get labor costs. Or they have a wheel they spin and get the total. Either way, they win.

He said parts only.

blackpearl 04-30-2013 08:45 PM

thanks sjef for reading my posts and it ended up being 138.86 with tax included for the parts as the service guy i talked to didnt realize the short fuel line and 2 clamps were included in the filter kit so the parts list consisted of the quick disconect fuel line that goes to the pressure regulator ,filter kit, canopy gasket,10 self sealing screws sold individually ! and one extra hose clamp. thanks for reading / listening to me . fyi if i didnt replace quick disconnect line would have only taken approximately 1/2 hr to do the job.

Call the dealer again. If you speak to the same parts guy, ask for a price breakdown. If it's a different parts guy, start over and see if you get the same price. If you do, ask for a price breakdown.

job is done already bought parts so i have the breakdown a little steep yes but they had the parts and i didnt want to wait ordering online and shipping thanks for all responses

The dealer may be including the canopy gasket and screws which are recommended to be changed also.
